VAT on Agency Commission

Most UK performers don't think about VAT until they see the deduction on their pay. Your agency takes 15% commission — that's £30 on a £200 fee. But if they're VAT-registered, they add 20% VAT on top of that commission. So the actual deduction is £36, not £30. That extra £6 quietly chips away at your take-home on every single gig.

Until now, Gigflow calculated commission but didn't account for this. You'd see £30 when the real deduction was £36. That gap adds up over a year of gigging.

What's new

There's now a toggle on each agency: "Agency charges VAT on commission." Turn it on, and Gigflow handles the rest. Every gig with that agency automatically includes the 20% VAT in the commission calculation.

More importantly, you can see the breakdown everywhere commission appears — on the gig detail screen, in the payment section, on your commission history page. Instead of just showing "£36 commission," Gigflow now shows "£30 commission + £6 VAT." No more guessing what's being taken from your fee.

How it works

Edit your agency, turn on the VAT toggle, and save. New gigs with that agency will calculate commission with VAT included. The toggle only appears when the agency has a commission rate set — if commission is set to "none," you won't see it.

If you manually override commission on a specific gig, the override is used as-is. VAT is only applied to the automatic calculation, so you're always in control.

Why it matters

For a performer doing 50 gigs a year through a VAT-registered agency at £200 per gig with 15% commission, that's £300 in VAT on commission annually. Knowing exactly what's being deducted — and having it tracked properly for your records — means no surprises when you sit down with your accountant.

This feature was requested by beta testers Natalie and Alfie. If your agency doesn't charge VAT on commission, you don't need to do anything — everything works exactly as before.
